Merlien Institute is an independent organisation dedicated to the advancement of qualitative research in academia, business and policy environments. Our mission is to provide an effective cross-fertilization platform for academics and practitioners to discuss, debate and disseminate best practices in qualitative research. Specifically, Merlien Institute aims to:

  • Cross-fertilize knowledge between academics and practitioners
  • Advance qualitative research methods and techniques
  • Strengthen the quality of qualitative research
  • Use qualitative research to complement quantitative work
  • Promote scientific standards in market research
  • Promote the use of qualitative research for policy making 

We fulfil these aims by bringing together academics and practitoners who have the passion to discuss critical and topical issues in a highly interactive, productive and fun meeting environment! A little bit about our history:
Merlien Institute was founded in 2006 in The Netherlands. The Singapore office was later established in 2009 to help support the growing demand for qualitative research events in the Asia-Pacific region. Merlien Institute, with its 23-strong Advisory Board Members now host more than 10 annual meetings around the globe with topics ranging from Computer-Aided Qualitative Research, Qualitative Research for Policy Making to Qualitative Research in the Web 2.0.
